Today, I was thinking about hygiene because I realised that, just in the same way we have showers and brush our teeth every day, we also need to make sure we take steps to cleanse and clear our energy and protect our aura.
Even if you don't believe in auras in the way spiritualists believe in them, most of us can understand that people and things have an energetic vibration. Some people light up the room when they enter, some people have a less striking presence, but their energy is one that makes people feel happier, more at peace, comforted or uplifted in some way.
Your aura, is your energetic vibration, your vibe, your halo. Beyonce sings about auras in her song, Halo.
"Hit me like a ray of sun,
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light"
Your aura is your light. The light that you shine on the world and it is the source of your contribution, creativity and love. It is the part of you that people find addictive and the essence they are drawn towards. Just like the lyrics in the song, your energy can hit people like a ray of sun. It is amazing to meet someone who has a strong aura, and equally, it is an amazing feeling when your aura is strong, healthy and vibrant.
Your energy, when it is cleansed and healthy, can heal and help but it can also draw in negativity and become contaminated. Just like moths to a flame, the stronger your aura, the more 'stuff', can get attracted and stuck on to it. Your aura can become muddied, dragged down and tired with energetic dust bunnies. Our light and force field can become drained by people, situations and even world vibrational frequencies like electromagnetism, radiation or negative news.
Here are a few ways to practise energetic hygiene, which should take no longer than the time it takes to brush your teeth:
Use your will: I believe our will is sovereign. We only have to believe that we are in charge of our own power and energy for it to be true. Claim your aura and draw it back to yourself by just calling it back to yourself every morning and every night. When we feel scattered and unfocused, sometimes it's because we have been scattering our energy everywhere and our aura is splintered. By drawing it back, using our will and focus, we reclaim our energy.
One way to do this is just close your eyes and imagine your aura in the many places you've visited that day, the many people you've interacted with that day and the projects in which you have invested your energy. Now draw it back to yourself by imagining it pouring back into you after being cleaned first to remove any darkness or contamination. Your energy is now recycled back to you.
Close your aura: Just as we need to reclaim our energy regularly by calling it back to us, we can also close off our aura to negative forces. Just as you call your energy back by directed focus, you can also simply state to the universe that your aura is now closed to everyone apart from those of the highest vibration of your own higher self's choosing. By stating this intention and then believing that your aura is now closed and protected, it becomes so. Belief and conviction are key in all energy hygiene work.
I used to believe that by closing my aura every day, I would also be blocking off the gift of sharing my light with others, but that is not the case. All that it means is that there is an energetic shield which you can imagine varies in thickness and level of protection. When you are in an environment that has a lot of different people's energies or you are going somewhere you might expect to encounter negativity, you may want to imagine a thick, metal forcefield around you. When you are with trusted family and friends, you may rather imagine a thin, translucent barrier that is permeable to love! Your aura is sensitive and should never be completely 'open' for manipulation and contamination.
Protect and recharge: Finally, of course, we can also use real-world, practical ways of protecting our energy by having clear boundaries so that we are not over-giving and not allowing people to mistreat or abuse us or invade our physical space and time. We must be able to say no to people, as well as say no to ourselves, when we are doing too much and not allowing adequate time for rest and rejuvenation. Protecting your energy is about taking your time and pacing yourself and remembering you are a human being, not a human doing.
Energy also needs to be recharged from time to time and having fun and sharing laughter is actually one of the best ways of energetic cleansing and recharging! Happiness is a skill that many don't have time to practise and focusing on joy builds back your energy when it has become depleted through too much negativity, burden, sorrow or even ill-health. Laughter once a day, keeps the doctor away - is an even better prescription for life than eating an apple a day!
Your aura is your light. When the light goes out completely then you are plunged into darkness and that is not a good place to be, energetically, emotionally or spiritually. It can lead to chronic fatigue, lack of motivation and depression. So make sure you are taking care of your energetic hygiene to ensure good energetic health in the same way you take care of your physical hygiene.
